Job Description

The Role:
A Sr. Industrial Designer at PopSockets can independently drive his or her own projects while also helping to guide the rest of the ID staff. The goal is to help define our design language and product DNA, while pushing us to innovate and expand into new categories. Should be self-driven, flexible, and comfortable in a fast-paced environment. The Sr. Industrial Designer should leverage their years of experience to lead project teams toward building exceptional products. The right candidate for this role can demonstrate examples of work where they have gone beyond the brief, employing problem identification to achieve the result of building the right product. Currently this is a remote position until the end of 2020. When offices reopen this position will be based in our San Francisco, CA design studio.

Design and develop products from concepts through the prototyping and testing phases, and ultimately to production
Drive our growth into new product categories through competitive landscaping and user research
Showing user feedback and prototype evidence, you will pitch and win buy-in from executives on leading architectures that provide the best user experience
Coordinate with our CMF team to enable beautiful and on-trend colorways
Collaborate with with our Engineering team to make sure every design detail is considered
Work with our manufacturing partners to ensure our designs become realities
Coach staff-level Industrial Designers through their projects, review quality of their work, help develop their toolboxes, and drive group brainstorms
Work with the team to maintain and evolve a cohesive design language and product philosophy
Work with our PopSockets China Manufacturing team and external manufacturing partners to find the best solutions for each project
Produce renderings and other presentation tools to help support our new products
Plug into our product design process with a ‘no job too small’ attitude
Show structured, evidence based, design leadership in ambiguous situations
Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial Design, Product Design, or equivalent
10+ years of hands-on industrial design experience, preferably with high-volume consumer goods, consumer electronics, or accessories
Experience as a lead of a team or on long-term projects
Structured product development process with identification of priorities and hand-off points
Software mastery: with CAD tools (Solidworks preferred), Keyshot, and Adobe CC
Strong sensitivity to form detail and C2 surfacing
Track record of successfully bringing designs from concept phase, through commercialization
Embraces a hands-on approach with lots of quick prototyping
Desire to innovate and challenge the status quo
Team player: leaves ego at home and takes critical feedback from anyone on the team
Must be able to travel domestically and internationally up to 15%, when things open back up
Ability to legally work in the US without sponsorship - unfortunately we cannot sponsor a visa at this time
