Student-Industry Relations Coordinator

The School of Art & Design, in the College of Fine and Applied Arts, seeks applicants for the position of Student- Industry Relations Coordinator to assist the Industrial Design Program Chair and faculty to strengthen students’ professional preparation through courses and workshops. They will also build and sustain opportunities for interactions with industrial design professionals through equitable and inclusive internship opportunities, occasions
for engaging professionally sponsored design projects, and increased interaction with industry professionals through a range of events and experiences.

Duties & Responsibilities

Teaching
• Teaching professional preparation courses to industrial design undergraduate and graduate students in fall and spring terms.
• Teaching internship-focused courses to industrial design undergraduate and graduate students in fall, spring, and summer terms.
• Teaching workshops on professional communication to industrial design undergraduate and graduate students.
• Teaching faculty workshops that engage with continuous profession-focused learning and professional development.
? Stay current with developments in the field of industrial design education and industry practices through attending conferences, workshops, and professional development opportunities.
? Incorporate new knowledge and best practices into program initiatives and strategies.

Student Professional Development and Industry Exposure
• Develop and implement an equitable and inclusive internship program for undergraduate and graduate industrial design students.
• Develop opportunities for professionally sponsored projects in industrial design undergraduate and graduate studios.
• Establish and sustain a visiting critics program that brings designers from industry for mid and final semester student studio presentations.
• Coordinate with FAA career services to develop and expand career fairs, networking events, and other activities that connect students with potential employers in the field of industrial design.
• Provide input on the development of career-related resources and workshops at the campus and college levels to tailor those to the needs of industrial design students.

Administration
• Build and sustain industry relations that provide key opportunities for industrial design undergraduate and graduate students.
• Develop promotional campaigns to raise awareness of internship opportunities, sponsored design projects, and other industry-related initiatives.
• Showcase student achievements and highlight the value of the program's industry connections via various outlets.
• Other duties as assigned.

Position Qualifications

Required-
• Bachelor's degree in in Industrial Design or closely related field.
• Three (3) years of design experience as a product, UX, or service designer in a corporate or consultant
environment.
• One (1) year of teaching experience as an instructor, teaching assistant, or student intern mentor.

Preferred-
• Graduate degree in Industrial Design or closely aligned field.
• 5 years of design experience as a product, UX, or service designer in a corporate or consultant environment.
• 3 years of teaching experience as an instructor, teaching assistant, or student intern mentor.
• Experience with industry-academic partnerships.
• Experience working with student interns.

Successful candidates will have the following-
• Excellent written, verbal, and visual communication skills.
• Proficiency in industry-standard digital design tools: Adobe Creative Suite, Solidworks, Keyshot or UX tool.
• Ability to develop and present clear and concise information in professional formats.
• Ability to work autonomously and effectively prioritize work accordingly to meet deadlines.
• Exceptional interpersonal skills, including the ability to interact effectively, maintain and strengthen relationships with academic faculty, students, support staff, and external stakeholders.
• Excellent organizational skills
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite programs/applications including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Appointment Information
This is a 100% full-time Academic Professional position, appointed on a 12-month basis. The expected start date is as soon as possible after the close of the search. Minimum salary for this position is $70,000.00. We strive to provide a competitive salary, considering factors such as available market data, internal equity, candidate experience and qualifications, collective bargaining agreements, and budget constraints. The final salary offer will be determined
through a thorough assessment of these elements. Work authorization sponsorship is not available for this position.
