Job Description

The School of Media Arts and Design (SMAD) at James Madison University (JMU) invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professor position, with a focus on interactive design and UI/UX design, beginning in August 2024.

Duties and Responsibilities:
We seek a student-oriented colleague who is committed to mentoring and producing compelling stories through user experience design and who can teach some combination of SMAD foundation courses and interactive design concentration classes. The ideal candidate also will demonstrate excellence in creative works or scholarly research that incorporates innovative uses of state-of-the-art tools, processes, methodologies, and creative practices in areas such as artificial intelligence, information architecture, interaction design, or spatial computing.

Qualifications:
An MFA or Ph.D. is required within 10 months of date of appointment; ABD applicants will be considered. The ability to teach current trends in technology with industry specific software (such as the Adobe Creative Cloud, Figma, and GitHub) is required. Professional experience with interactive media production or development platforms for UI/UX design based on web standards (including HTML, CSS, and JavaScript) is preferred.
