Job Description

At Anthem.AI, we’re rethinking and redesigning how to help clinicians do the best job in caring for their patients by building new technologies and tools. Traditional clinical trials are often based on small numbers of patients, and those patients often aren’t as diverse as the general population. It’s also hard to study drug interactions in small trials, particularly when people have multiple health conditions. By drawing from millions of anonymized patient records, our tools are able to recommend prescriptions and treatments on the basis of the experiences of thousands of people just like the patient in question. This raises crucial design questions: how can we make these processes transparent and trustable? How can we understand what information health care workers need to make decisions, and present it to them in a powerful and actionable way? We’re building a great design team who take seriously this opportunity to improve healthcare in a fundamental way. Come join us!

UI Designer

As a UI Designer in Anthem.ai’s design group you’ll bring your strong visual design and problem-solving skills to help your team develop cohesive and compelling interface designs for a new generation of data-intensive, digital products used by healthcare professionals, practices, and patients. You’ll be responsible for developing design and interface elements that are very approachable, but also have the necessary depth to help people understand complex data to improve peoples’ health. Though you are early in your professional career, you are eager to learn and grow your toolbox and hungry to work in all phases of the design process—from early-stage product discovery to developing and iterating on mature products.
In this role, you’ll be working closely with a senior designers and scientists to ideate, explore, research and help create the “what” a user sees, touches and experiences in these next generation, AI driven healthcare tools. You love to dive into new spaces - researching your users’ needs, workflows, motivations and how things work in their realities. You are not precious about your work and love the chance to explore a wide range of concepts, collaborating with teammates to quickly iterate and learn what happens when ideas meet users. You’re organized, flexible, and happy to take direction. You view constraints as opportunities and yet, ambiguity doesn’t frighten you as you are happy researching and sketching ideas. You must be comfortable working with projects and people that are evolving quickly.

You have at least 3 years of experience designing and developing engaging products and/or user interfaces for consumer or healthcare products. Your portfolio shows you’ve shipped engaging, successful experiences with clear and consistent narratives, on a variety of platforms (desktop, mobile, game consoles, etc.), including at least 1 on iOS or Android. Your portfolio demonstrates great foundational design skills with great attention to detail on projects across different styles and markets. The ideal portfolio shows you have:
o The ability to work independently to interpret and adapt a defined style or design language to different areas to respective features or elements of a larger project.
o Strong rapid visualization skills for quickly generating, iterating and visually pitching your ideas as concept sketches, storyboards, etc. (We are big fans of good old fashioned pencil sketches!)
o Strong foundational visual design skills (e.g., layout, composition, typography, color) that show you can work with complex visual information and maintain awareness for information hierarchy, flow and context, including states and transitions.
o The ability to work comfortably in a wide array of styes, including a style set by another designer.
o Exceptional attention to detail.
o A breadth of artistic/design styles
o Very good storytelling and presentation skills.
o Flexibility in your ability to work at the appropriate level of visual fidelity (thumbnailing, sketching, wireframing, designing and polishing).
o Ability to remain faithful to project’s creative direction regardless of style, technology, platform or user demographics.
o And while not a requirement, illustration or motion graphics are a bonus.

(These describe what we think might be the right person for this role. We don’t expect every candidate to have all of these. The most important thing is that you have a broad toolbox, a flexible mind and can work quickly to explore, iterate and improve ideas on target platforms, regardless of where an idea comes. You must love to learn.)

You need to have a sense of humor. This work is hard, but playfulness is a crucial ingredient to great design work. The ideal candidate has a Bachelors' in Graphic, Interaction, Industrial or Production Design, Motion Graphics, Medical Illustration, Scientific Visualization, User Experience or a related field, or equivalent experience. Experience in B2B environments, healthcare or other regulated sectors, is a plus, but so is experience in rich emotionally-driven consumer interfaces such as game design, theme park design, location-based entertainment, or high-end retail.

You must reside in the USA. Salary is commensurate with market and experience. These are either contract or full-time positions; we often like to hire on contract (and pay well) as part of determining if a candidate is a good fit for a full-time role, and if we’re a good fit for you. In all cases, we're looking for people who recognize and embrace the importance of diversity in teams.

We want to turn these around rapidly, and aim to start work in May 2021.
