The client gave a picture of their living room and asked to design a center coffee table. The living room was so defined as a structure, I decided to use wood and straight crisp lines as the base for the design. I needed a form that broke the monotony of rectangles that accommodated in the living room. Accurate division of sides and the form but make it merge to the settings.
Frame had to be light yet hold strength . The descendant from 4 sides to three sides was an aesthetic decision.
Rhino modelling helped me visualise the measurements I had marked for the piece and also make changes with the look of the frame. You will see the difference in the live model.
Wood shopping . We picked up Ghana for the top due to its knots and natural color. For the framework I picked up Sudan for its strength, price and light weight.
It's a bit of a task to come at par with the language used by Ganshyamji. Eventually I learned it and once the basic structure was ready, I started concentrating on the frame finishing. I used simple sketches to explain the design, 2 D view of each part with measurements.
The legs seemed a big too boring , so I decided to cut the outer edge , giving legs 5 sides and adding a new dimension. Because it's the "Paaya", I couldn't do much, but convinced ganshyamji to cut in by 1 cm.
Sanding the final structure for polishing was a different feel, like I was back in college workshop. Also imparted a sense of ownership towards the piece.
This was one last detailing left, while Prahshantji was spraying the sudden realization that this was it . I got over excited and did special documentation of the polishing. First times always special and energetic.
The last coat of finishing, after this the piece was left to dry for 2 days. It took so long to dry because he had to spray 3 coats of the polish as the second coat caught a bit of dust and we had to remove the dust particles immediately and apply the polish again. its very important to spray the polish in a dust free area, this area was rid of dust, but the gush of wind made it difficult.

Sides

First freelance furniture project.
Sides is an amalgamation of unequal vertexes into one molded piece. It's a light (foremost requirement from the client), strong Ghana wood piece.
