Dream Dorm Design

The objective of this project was to design a dream dorm room for two people. I was inspired for my dorm room by both mid-century modern design and tiny homes. The most important part of the design is the placement of the beds. These pieces of furniture take up a large amount of space, so I wanted the beds to be able to be tucked away when not in use. I designed a lifting and locking rail system that would allow the beds to be raised to the ceiling when not in use, and then lowed to the correct height at bedtime. In this way, the room maximizes the amount of space available while becoming a welcoming and inviting environment for the user, and in turn the room promotes learning, creativity, and shared experiences.
