The Duckhorn Portfolio consists of 10 different wines and wineries, some of which have been around for over 4 decades. When they approached Gravity Creative to update their brand and identity as they acquired more wineries, we knew that we wanted to keep their legacy alive and well with a traditional and classic design but that they needed something cleaner and more streamlined. Their old design included multiple flying ducks and cattails and their type was reversed out of a rectangle. It looked muddy and heavy as it shrank to mobile sizes and it needed to embody their traditional illustration style, but work in the 21st century. To simplify and modernize their mark, we removed the cattails, included only one flying duck, but added in their established date as it was still important to them to highlight their legacy. This project was also completed with the illustration done by Nathan Yoder and additional deliverables by Julia Perry.
