Flat color version - comparing it to the full texture above, I currently appreciate the clarity of this one much more than I previously did. It comes off a bit more cartoony, but a lot more catches the eye.

This piece was completed late 2012 and was more an excuse to test out my new Wacom 12UX. I wouldn't say its a fully developed realization of the concept, more just a first draft and a good test illustration.
Most of this was done entirely freehand but some of the curves were achieved with the Pen Tool in Photoshop.
