The prompt for this project was to design a lighting element based off of the quote by English Romantic Painter John Constable: "The sky is the source of light in nature and it governs everything". The lamp plays on the theme of the balance of nature and features a downward facing task light and up facing ambient light.
It is made out of Mahogany finish and finished with teak oil. The shade was turned out of a block of polyethylene, and the cord is housed in tea stained cotton. All hardware was made out of stainless steel. The counterweight is made of black oxide washers between two shaft collars.
The switch is located in-line on the cord. The up and down lights can be independently turned on and off.
The lamp features six 1.2W LEDs, three facing down and three facing up. The light cast by the offset LEDs creates an interesting overlapping pattern. The upward facing ambient LED's are diffused through a sheet of polyethylene and cast an even glow upwards.
