Liquid Sound Collision - Sound travels as compression waves through gases and liquids. Stable in its immateriality it remains true to its original data. Here sound input has a stronger power over a flow field. It creates waves that propagate through the fluid. When two sound waves run towards each other, they collide and interfere with each others patterns. A snapshot of this collision is translated into a 3D model and produced with a milling machine. http://evsc.net/v7/doku.php?id=sketch:soundflow
Phyllotaxis Sphere : Ashes unto Pearl - Amy Cheung's Ashes unto Pearl is a 3 meter big hollow sphere with a charcoal surface. Across the hull 188 speakers are distributed and play simultaneously interview fragments of different people. Presented in an dark environment the black sphere becomes an invisible object of whispers. My job was to find an interesting way of arranging the 188 speakers and an similar high number of peek holes across the sphere hull. http://evsc.net/v7/doku.php?id=work:sphere
KitesFight - Kites Fight is an 3d pseudo-physics environment. Triangle shapes attract, repel and attach to each other following different rulesets. Patterns form if the system is stable enough. The volume of the sound input influences the friction parameter and different action-commands. http://evsc.net/v7/doku.php?id=work:kites
Spinal Rhythms - Thesis project (c) 2007 The art work presents a solution on how to bridge the gap between digital and robotic artificial life art. It introduces the shaping power of evolutionary systems - widely employed in digital artificial life - into a real-world setup full of complex dynamics and unpredictable conditions. http://spinal.evsc.net/
Deterministic Nonperiodic Flow (1963) - Term project with Daniel J. Wilson (c) 2006 A large-scale hexagonal grid of rotating units demonstrates a number of phenomena, such as pattern formation, magnetic forces and the trajectories within a dynamical system. Magnetic forces in each of the rotating arms cause a chain reaction of movement affecting neighbor units and moving across the grid.
Tension - Group project with Hamlet Lin. (c) 2006 A framed and tensioned cloth is connected to 8 motor units. The analysis of several news-feeds on 'good' and 'bad' in nowadays world provides the input for those motors that pull and release the hooked membrane. A constant interplay between opposing forces produces movement, deformation and destruction of the material. Tension gives form to the structure and it also has the potential to destroy it. Exhibited at IT-ceum museum in Sweden.
Txt-Me-1st - A spam factory made from old typewriter parts physically and digitally reworks your SMS messages before returning scrambled versions to your mobile phone. group project with Hamlet Lin and Justin Wong
