New England Habitats gallery view
New England Habitats gallery view left side - The graphics were printed directly on wooden panels which are part of the structure of the walls. They measure 3'w x 8'h.
New England Habitats Black Bear diorama - The dioramas in this gallery are over 50 years old. Originally they highlighted animals that were disappearing in the New England area, and are now abundant.
New England Habitats White Tailed Deer diorama - Each diorama has two large panels. The left panel highlights the setting and animal in the diorama using text, a range map, donor information and art indicating the area
New England Habitats Beaver diorama panel close-up - I designed the art on the on these panels to be somewhat transparent, so that the wood grain would show through. Using a limited palette creates a sophisticated design.
New England Habitat Sea Birds diorama right panel - The right panels highlight the location of the diorama. When the dioramas were designed, mural artists were sent to the exact locations to sketch and paint what they saw.

NEW ENGLAND HABITATS

This exhibit was one of the first opened in the museum in the early 1960s and was due for a revamp in content and design. The dioramas were not to be disturbed. The large plywood labels were printed directly onto the surface and are actually doors into each diorama. Each window has a different animal habitat found in the region.
