During the 1920s, GABRIELLE “COCO” CHANEL was one of the most popular designers in Paris. This ENSEMBLE is from 1927 and is made from a combination of wool and silk. The bodice is wool jersey that is cut in a loose box shape the falls to just at the hips and the skirt is made from carefully pleated silk. Chanel’s designed were inspired by men’s tailoring which was used to create simple and elegant women’s clothing. A dress like this would have been worn by FLAPPERS as every day dress.
