History of Costume Illustrated Digital Vocabulary List CH18

This dress, dated 1960-61, is an example of OP ART, which used patterns to create illusions. This type of WEARABLE ART was popular in the 60s. The shorter cut was a way for women to express their freedom from societies constrictive expectations. A dress like this would have been worn by women as a day dress.
