Bell Volt Helmet

It is somewhere around 2007, I think. I don't have that much to say about the Volt, except that there was a missed year. I had some experience under my belt at that time but not enough to see that the helmet master we sent to our vendor would not make through the rigorous testing procedures we put helmets through at Bell Sports. We tooled the first medium sized cavity and I started my impact testing. I soon realized that the design would not make it in terms of performance...hey, it happens but we catch it. In this case I could not find any easy way to fix the issues. The tooling and base helmet geometry left no recourse for improvement modifications; aka adding foam or structural material to zones on the helmet which where performance lacked. We would later return to the design and improve upon it and release in the following season. But is was a very good lesson for me, and got me looking harder at early designs before major tooling was launched. It turned out great in the end.
