Pilcrow

Pilcrow - Musical instrument
Spring 2009

Pilcrow was made in Köln International School of Design (KISD) during my one-year stay in Cologne and it was the subject of my bachelor's thesis for TaiK.

Pilcrow is a new kind of musical instrument that combines elements from string and percussion instruments as well as idiophones. It's key is a steel rod that is played by either hitting or plucking. The pitch can be freely adjusted by moving the key up and down the saddle. As an electric instrument it is compatible with all standard plugs, wires, effects and amplifying devices. Pilcrow's shape is largely dictated by the human anatomy which results in a very comfortable and relaxed position for the musician.
