Movement Mapping
Exterior view from E&C train platform Everyone is part of the performance: Different transparencies of glass on the facade of the dance studio give different viewing experiences to those watching on the platform. Some panels allow just enough to make out dancing shadows, while others allow even the smallest movements to be seen. Dancers always have an audience in this studio that sits above the train station, bringing performance to the everyday- not just on show nights.

Year 3/ Project 2/ Forgotten Places

‘The Elephant & Castle Theatre and Ballet School'

The Coronet Theatre has remained a venue for entertainment for over 100 years in Elephant & Castle, but it now mostly used as a night-club and concert venue, it is in danger of being closed.

The area is being redeveloped alongside the demolition plans for the infamous Heygate estate just the other side of Elephant Road to the Coronet.

To re-establish this failing music venue back into a thriving place for performance was a challenge I wanted to undertake, as well as
the possibility of expanding the use of the archway units that sit below the viaduct next to the venue so that the market places and small businesses can stay in Elephant & Castle. I wanted to do this through keeping original and historical structure, while improving and changing its function- injecting life into what is a forgotten and unloved place.
