Created for Planet Pulp's Birth Year theme, a bit of a mashup of two things that came out the year I was born — Superman vs Space Invaders.

I've also included a little close-up/process of how I made Superman. I sketched out a couple of different options for the head but in the end I went with the simpler profile view. Initially, I was thinking it would all be in the classic Superman blue and red, before deciding to make the whole thing in a retro video game crt-screen green.
