New Holland compact line, tractor hood - Alias rendering of a New Holland compact tractor hood. This design and styling is based on the flagship model TG series large row crop tractor design which set the new brand identity for New Holland tractors.

The brand DNA was migrated down from first introduction on the TG series to the remainder of the New Holland tractor line.

Control lever - Tractor control lever for Steyr tractor.
New Holland TG hood - master model - This is the full size, CNC machined master model of the New Holland TG series tractor hood.
This model was machined directly from Alias surface data at Roush-Crucam in Detroit.

From this CNC master model, molds were taken and then fiberglass layups were created for the executive review prototype.

Additionally, the Alias data was used to create the prototype light housings and lens covers.

Combine control arm - Armrest control panel for CaseIH combine. This was done several years ago and used then-current production mechanical/electrical switches and components such as the joystick.

This Alias model was intended as the design intent for new right-hand consoles throughout the product line.

No, it does not really float in the air, but that would resolve some problems of range of position and adjustment.
Space claim study for cab seat and console - This is a shaded view while studying control console clearances. The right-hand console is attached to the operator seat which can translate for and aft, up and down and also swivel.
CaseIH Magnum prototype - Full size, prototype hood, grille and headlamps.
Modeled in Alias. Hood and grille tooling CNC machined in REN, hand layup fiberglass. Light reflectors modeled in Alias, CNC machined positive in REN, polished, plated. Light lens tooling CNC machined from Alias, vacuum formed PET or PC.
New Holland "cat's eye" lighting system - A nice detail shot of the New Holland tractor headlight system. This is the largest variation of the lighting system on the TG series tractor.

  • Congratulations! I do love the rear fenders and how you closed the cab. It seems to be formerly designed for this wheeled version instead of the crawler ones (MT700 and MT800).

  • It was a shame not to see this design under the McCormick MTX. Unlucky brand...

  • Brilliant design! As usual on all of the Magnum Series.

  • You're welcome. Just brought the old mountain bike in for a sorely needed tune today! Time to get back on the saddle.

  • Hi Douglas. I've been a long time admirer of this particular range of New Holland tractors, the vertical light stacking was a really original detail & gave the range a unique product differentiation. Seeing that you've got a history of CAT & CASE design too says you've got this stuff in your blood. Great work... Gary Major.

  • Awesome tractor. I've always liked the Challenger series, right back to the earliest tracked variants, but this model is easliy the most impressive in the line-up. It's great to see big, heavy duty, 'working machines' with as much of a jaw - dropping first impression as this. Great detailing too. It must have been a blast to work on - fantastic job Doug.

  • Thanks for the nice comments gentlemen. I can't take that much credit for this machine. I designed the fenders and did some detailing on the cab body panels. My nephew Rob did the bulk of the cab panel modeling work. The hood design of the Challenger series was designed years ago by Russ Strong. These big 4WD machines are a commanding presence aren't they? Even more so in person! Fun stuff.

  • Extremely clean design and beautifully rendered. Cool work Doug.

  • Absolutely fantastic form study, superbly detailed and beautifully rendered. The body of work you did for NH completely re-defined their form language and inspired a whole bunch of Industrial Designers to try harder.

  • This was always a genesis product for me, it made me realise just how cool ag machines could look. A winner from the start Doug.

  • The design was originally intended to have two integrated, composite light housings, a la New Holland, in the front but in development was cost reduced to the 6 discreet, individually mounted, off-the-shelf headlights. Still would have worked out pretty well though. Ultimately, the concept was not adopted by McCormick and they have a different design dubbed 'superman' I think.

  • Thanks Onur. That would be the same line as this hood. This was Class 3 compact version if memory serves. I think we collaborated with your group on a hood for JX series value product as well? Best wishes to you.
