below the city - I was inspired to create this drawing when I first moved to Boston. I had noticed the vast and sometimes dingy infrastructure that lay beneath the city. The pen and ink drawing is rough and immediate, calling attention to an intricate network of the arteries that power the city. Pipes, electrical wires and plumbing systems are representative beyond their figurative identity. They relate to a larger view of all systems including organic ones like the human body.

For this painting I chose to modernize the very traditional still life by manipulated form and distorting perception of color. Colors are fractured to highlight subtle nuances that effect spacial relations.
