This work began as a commissioned project for Pinches Tacos, a popular family run, Los Angeles based taqueria. The objective was to conceptualize, design, and install wall art for Pinches' newly opened Culver City location. We wanted the art to reflect Pinches' unique defining influences: urban LA nightlife, family values, and traditional Mexican culture. The final installation consists of seven large-scale loteria (Spanish bingo) cards. Each loteria card dons a calaca-style (skeleton-style) caricature of one of the seven family members who owns and operates Pinches Tacos.
We received so much positive feedback from patrons, we now create custom calaca caricatures. We meet with all of our clients personally in order to collaboratively design a caricature that truly reflects their personality, style, and interests.
