Toshi Bicycle Helmet

Senior Capstone Project

The Toshi concept is an urban bicycle commuter helmet with a core made of a dilatant smart material, which behaves by changing material properties from soft and flexible to stiff and rigid during a high-speed impact. Such material is used in products made by D3O and G-form in sports padding and even in the military. The outer layer of modular panels gives added protection and is customizable to suit the rider’s style. Instead of having to replace an entire helmet due to a collision, each panel can be switched out.
