La Sierna Using a loteria card as my still life I scaled it up it greatly to really show the iconic graphic that this card has in Mexican culture. Oil on panel 24"x24"
Post-It Composition 1 Compositionally I often work in a square dimension for my paintings so I can perfectly fit rectangles into the composition. For this composition, I focused on placing squares in a rectangle format. Oil on panel 11"x14"
Godzilla This is contemporary twist on the theme of Dutch Vanitas paintings. Oil on panel 11"x14"
Fold and Unfold In this oil painting I focused on emulating the marksmanship created by pencil and ink from old sketches I have drawn eight years ago. 24"x24" oil on mdf board
Staying Afloat Continuing with the theme of paper this still life was painted with the concept of a boat trying to overcome a large wave as the smaller boat was left submerged. 11"x14" oil on canvas
Paper Boat A study of a paper boat emphasizing on edge control and the forms of crinkled paper. 7"X12" oil on canvas
Turned Off In this still-life I painted a TV with the intent of capturing the concept of American nostalgia. I used a limited and less chromatic palette to emulate a dusty atmosphere. Oil paint on canvas "18x18"
Self Portrait In this self portrait, painted from life, I used a combination of complementary and low temperature colors to depict the numbing effect of studying one's self. Oil on canvas "24x24"
Float On In this oil painting I created a a family portrait using paper boats to represent each family member . Using paper as a theme it symbolizes the folding and unfolding of family history during good and bad times. Oil on canvas "18x18"
La Pera y La Rosa In this still life painting I referenced the Mexican card game Lotería. The pear is lyrical by symbolizing machismo, masculinity, and how a boy must grow up to become man. It is juxtaposed against a drawing of a rose done by a child who rather view more sensitive subjects. Oil on canvas "10x10"
Unveiled In this portrait I painted the back of the head using a simple palette to focus on the harmony that one sees when looking at a loved one romantically. The veil hides the subject keeping its transparency. Oil on Canvas 16”x20”
Resting at the Edge The focus is on the gaze and the reflective look over the idea of protectiveness and strength. Using a different technique known as semi opaque glazing I worked in layers letting the light come from beneath. Oil on canvas 11”x14”
Two Morrow This large scaled painting is scaled up to show the beauty and powerful gaze that someone may have when looking towards something menacing. I worked without the shadows and I wanted to pull the subject away from the viewer. Oil on canvas 25”x25"
Sir William I was commissioned to paint an upcoming musician that focused on alternative and electronic rock. I used a combination of traditional pallet skin tones and neons to recreate the electronic vibes William has. Using composition I focused the viewer on his gaze to show his self ego at large. Oil on Canvas 11”x14”
self Reflection Working from a mirror I painted myself pressing my hand against the glass playing with the idea that the actual canvas was a barrier from the painting entering our world. Oil on canvas 30”x40”
