King of Pop - An illustration I did of Michael Jackson. Done strictly in illustrator markers, one of my favorite mediums to work with.
The Dark Keaton - A simple caricature study of Michael Keaton. I put him in his Batman get up because I'm a huge Batman fan and because it's one of his most prominent roles.
Old Blue Eyes - A caricature of Mr. Frank Sinatra. I wanted to capture that smooth charm and cool wit that he possessed. The multiple cigarettes and lipstick on the collar are both winks to a more carefree time in history. I also added a little touch of the smoke forming his initials.
Chan Print LV:III - A mock up cover for the magazine Print. This is a watercolor I did of our Typography professor Mr. Phillip Chan. I then outlined everything in an illustrator pen, scanned it, minimally manipulated it, and finally added all the type. The issue I redesigned was with dealing with type, so I thought adding our typography professor added a little charm to cover.
Mr. Depp - A fun illustration I did awhile back just because. I don't remember if I worked off of a specific picture or if I just made the pose the up. I know I did add the funny hat and camera though. Once again done in my favorite medium, illustration markers.
Imagining - As a big Beatle fan I felt the need to make tribute to Mr. John Lennon. In this piece I used one of my most dear loves, watercolors. It's simply all blacks and a matter of washing out and deciding what to define and what not to. I know of a few homes that have prints of this piece now hanging on their walls. And it makes me proud both as an artist and a fan.
Where's George? - This piece always make me chuckle. It's titled 'Where's George?' because obviously he's the only Beatle missing from the piece, though you can see the start of his head to the left of John. I was going to add him in but I thought the piece was more fun and had more of an impact if left out. The piece is done on 18 x 24 Strathmore drawing paper, but oddly enough is in watercolor and of course illustration markers.
Old Man with guitar - This piece was done strictly for the sake of doing it. I was doing it for the technique, because I so enjoy using illustration markers and making fine, tiny, minute details. It takes on an almost gross factor as to how detailed everything is. I just drew him up on the spot, I waiting for someone to ask me to use him on CD of some sort. I think he's a pretty cool looking guy if you ask me, but then again I drew him.
Sex and School - I made these two illustrations to go with an article about sex in college. I wanted to be minimalist in nature as my goal was to keep them simple and clean. But also to bring a sort of edgy and artistic feeling. I also had an anatomy book handy and sort of incorporated diagrams and what not that I found. Also my goal was to make the girls appear sexy without being pornographic. My mediums were illustration pens and watercolors. The first is an 8.5 x 11 and the second one is about 5 x 7.
