Sven's Island - Magazine Illustration. Airbrushed tempera on board. Gigante Vaz & Partners, 1994.
This assignment started with a rough I was given by Gigante Vaz art director Dan Driscoll. I developed a color marker comp, which went through a few changes before approval. From there it was relatively easy to follow through to the finished piece.
The copy was written by Gigante Vaz staff writer Mark Duffy, and the ad appeared in a travel magazine.

Solar Reflector - Solar Reflector,1978. 15"x20". Airbrushed tempera on board.
This piece was done around the I was studying animation at SVA with instructor Marty Abrahams. I was looking for articles I could develop into simple animations and collected a few on the idea of solar reflecting satellites. The style was meant to resemble NASA type concept art.
Ventriloquist - Ventriloquist, 1978. 18"x24". Airbrushed tempera on board.
The Dragon by the Side of the Road - Front cover: Miss Archangelo Sleeps, 2005. 81/2"x11". Ink on board.
This cover design was put together by modifying one of the frames from the story. This particular scene, which features D.K.Gumshoe's partner, Miss Archangelo, looks most like a homage to comics great Wallace Wood, which was the intention. The title was hand lettered with a marker and reversed on a copier, and that's how the piece was done.
This is our Gift - This is our Gift, 2004. 11"x17". Watercolor ink on paper.
This painting was designed as a double page spread for my first graphic novel, The Dragon by the Side of the Road. I visited many of the galleries and Buddhist temples in the Chinatown area to research how it should be done.
