As homes within densely populated cities become increasingly smaller, demand for space-conscious furniture has increased. Inspired by Danish design the Native Folding Chair is a high-end compact piece designed for everyday use where current folding chairs compromise on form and ergonomic comfort.
The Native Chair aims to challenge the perception of the folding chair as a back up or budget object and instead was developed to explore the suitability of a folding chair as an everyday piece of furniture.
The form and folding mechanism of the chair were devised to give the user two carrying handles for easy transportation between rooms and sought to be both aesthetically desirable both in use and when stored.
Inspiration for the project came from the over-saturation of folding chairs within the market using the same mechanism. Inspired by nomadic and danish living trends with the intention of encouraging a new way of thinking as to what environments a folding chair can succeed in.
