thesis project on the threshold between design and urbanism. study on the possibility of implementation of ropeways into urban realities in order to indicate a new approach towards traffic problems still to be solved, e.g. the slums of caracas. The focal point of the concept is the combination of a rail system (which allows the realization of curves – an essential fact in urban enviroments) with the advantages of a gondolaway.
one of seven case studies: hong kong po lam connection of a remote area with the metro network
requirements of an urban system: an urban ropeway system has to be able to go on rail tracks in order to realize curves and to connect directly to the existing transit network, as well as on cables, which demand less structure in order to bypass urban obstacles
a possible solution for a combined carriage and the rail track
the approach to the cabin's design is strictly functional: two doors allow for quick boarding / alighting; in order to maximize door width, the outer doors slide to the front of the cabin. thus it has an oval shape.

implementation hypothesis: downtown hong kong
hypothetical ropeway station at hong kong central MTR station. the station links directly to the existing pedestrian bridge network, thus using the existing infrastructure to connect with other public transport modes.
