Ingersoll Rand power tools brand
The IQv12 Series product line was in development at the same time as this project (the charger). The battery & impact driver were effectively design-complete at the time. Other products would be added to the line later.
Other design influences included the already-existing larger IQv20 Series charger (BC1120), battery, & tools. The 20v charger features included a slide-locking battery insertion method, wall mountability, & an auxiliary USB charge port.
Ideation began with the IQv20 Series charger & how it could be adapted to a smaller form factor

Initial design concept A
Initial design concept B
Initial design concept C
I made basic 3D CAD models of the 3 sketched concepts.
Concepts A & B were chosen for me to develop further in 3D CAD. Here are renderings I made of concept A based on internal components. It also explored a label with translucent windows for LED indicators & the logo. This was my preferred concept aesthetically.
3D CAD development of concept B by me. It also explored using just ports for LED light pipe indicators & a raised colored logo instead of a label. This concept was preferred by the product team overall for having a smaller perceived size. This was the end of my direct involvement in the project as my coop period was finished & I returned to the University of Cincinnati as planned.
The final product as completed by others after my coop period at Ingersoll Rand was finished. The work of others included by was not limited to details of the cord & integration of features including wall-mountability & the USB charging port. The overall form is based primarily on the concept B that I developed.

Compact Cordless Tools Battery Charger Form Development

Form development for the battery charger for the Ingersoll Rand compact cordless tools line. It was undertaken while I was on coop at Ingersoll Rand & ultimately finished by others but remained largely based on the work that I did.
