I wanted to create the Star Wars (& many other franchises by now) weathered look. The text was made in Illustrator, distorted, & traced. A nebula image lightly fills the letters. I left some of my early sketch underlay in because it can add layer of depth, richness, & a more handmade style.
Ideation of the spacefighter shape. It turned out looking somewhat shark-like.
1st sketched underlay plus more refined linework. Obsessive compulsiveness kicked in & I had to figure out what the back would look like, even though I had no plans to show it in the illustration.
Ideating different compositional views. The lower right view became the underlay for the final linework.
