It has been nearly 50 years since man last visited the moon. On December 14th 1972 the crew of Apollo 17 lifted off from the Taurus-Littrow valley after completing a 3 day visit to the lunar surface. Apollo 17 was the first time a geologist was part of the team exploring the moon.
