Step 1 - Traced trash can profile and offset by 0.375. Step 2 - Cut offset profile with band saw. Step 3 - Sanded edge with table saw sander. Step 4 - Routed edge to 45 degrees for nice fit. Step 5 - Sanded for smooth surface/prep for finish. Step 6 - Stained with Minwax Ebony and 2 coats of Satin Poly.
The fit of the lid is superb and the stain and varnish look great, but there's only one problem. Back to the wood shop...
In this design, I have added four 1/4" holes with chamfered edges to allow any and all bathroom rubbish to dry. The main problem with all trashcan lids I have encountered is simple, the trash cannot breathe and the smell becomes nearly unbearable over a short period of time. Not in my bathrooms!
