Entrance to Spurlock Museum of World Cultures - The Central Core: All human beings face similar physical, mental, and spiritual challenges as they strive to understand and control the world around them. How they meet these challenges varies with the times and places in which they live. The circle of the central core represents the conceptual foundation of the Spurlock Museum. It connects the galleries both physically and thematically and celebrates the complexity of the human experience through the aspects of body, mind, and spirit.
Mind pillar - The Mind: The mind—the human brain and its unique interrelated thought processes—enables us to invent, to engage, to explore.
Body pillar - The Mind: Every human being has the same fundamental needs to nourish and protect the physical self.
Spirit pillar - The Spirit: To some this is the foundation of being truly human: the spark for our creativity and the heart of our communities.
