The CION is a 4K/UHD and 2K/HD production camera that’s capable of shooting directly to edit-ready Apple ProRes 4444 at up to 4K 30fps as well as output AJA Raw at up to 4K 120fps – its basically bad ass – see the full list of impressive specs on the AJA site.
The enormous challenge with a feature loaded and input/output rich product like this is how to cram everything into a small unit and arrange it in a functional and intuitive way so that the operator is able to shoot and perform effortlessly. We focused on keeping the camera housing clean and void of too many surface changes in order to eliminate as much visual distraction as possible. We created feature “islands” in a few locations where we wanted to group related functions and separate them from others. With so many inputs/outputs, dials, connectors, buttons, cords and external peripherals creating any more clutter seemed counter productive.
