Perspective View - Standing Topography series are standing lamp shades which are inspired by natural contour map. By simplifying nature, the shades can keep its natural dynamic and active shape while minimalizing nature’s random and wild character for contemporary interior space.

Actual Image - The final phase of the project was to actualize digitalized 3d model by creating physical model. To make physical model, first of all, draw sections of each 24 fin and base frames, and then laser-cut cardboards applying drawings. Lastly, fabricate lamp shade with laser-cutted elements following order of fins for having smooth topography of lamp shade.
Actual Image - Basically, physical model was made the same with digital model. Although it was made with cardboard due to time and expense, there is no limit of material. It can be easliy manufactured with wood, metal or anything else.

Concept Process
Shape Making Process - The lamp shade was designed as one of projects which students carried out in the class, “Advanced Computing: Investigating Digital and Material Tectonics”. The objective of this project was to make innovatively shaped lamp shade while using computer 3D program such as Maya. This process shows how the Standing Topography is created with Maya.
