Chat Recipe Kits - Food packaging for recipe kits that incorporate foreign recipes and basic language learning.
Chat - Identity design for Chat brand.
Chat Bakery menu design - Chat is a conceptual company that acts as a place where people can eat, cook, and learn about foreign foods together. The brand uses food and cooking as a platform to present foreign languages to Americans while providing an experience of foreign cultures. Chat would be a physical location that serves as a cafe and bakery, but also has products, such as recipe kits, that would be sold in grocery stores and food shops.
Illustrations for German Lebkuchen Recipe Kit - The typography and illustrations in the corporate design are hand drawn. This technique was used to reflect an imperfect, human quality that is friendly and non-intimidating. This represents the conceptual company's philosophy about learning and experiencing a foreign language.
Empanadas Recipe Kit - The corporate identity and packaging design of Chat were part of my thesis project while studying at Hochschule Anhalt, in Dessau, Germany. The topic was chosen based on personal experience of living in a foreign country in combination with a passion for food and cooking.
French Macarons Recipe Kit - The kits contain certain ingredients necessary for preparing foreign recipes, such as special flours and spices, and the consumer combines these with common ingredients from their own kitchen. Through the packaging design, the consumer is exposed to foreign words that are related to the recipe with charming icons that signal the translations of each foreign word.
Alternate view of Recipe Kit packaging for French macarons - Chat's goals are about teaching people basic foreign language skills and to exposing them to foreign cultures. Chat also hopes to inspire people to want to continue learning foreign languages over time.
French Macaron Recipe Kit - Fun facts related to the foreign food represented on the Recipe Kit packaging.
Chat to-go packaging - Chat would be a physical location that serves as a cafe and bakery, but also has products, such as recipe kits, that would be sold in grocery stores and food shops.
Chat cafe and bakery menu design
Chat cafe and bakery menu - The Chat cafe and bakery features dishes from various cultures for the customers to experience. An important and unique feature of Chat is that it also hosts cooking classes and groups to encourage a deep interaction with foreign culture and food.
Chat spice packet business cards - These business cards are used as a marketing tool to draw potential customers to Chat. They can also be used as small keepsakes for existing customers to obtain to bring a little piece of Chat home, reminding them of their experience. The cards contain spices from various cultural cuisines that customers can try. On the front of each card are directions on how to incorporate the spices into meals.
Chat spice packet business card - This example shows the French version of the business card. The customer is encouraged to "try a little French" language, culture, and food.
Recipe Kits and Spice Pack
Chat Spice Packs - These Spice Packs are used as a marketing tool for Chat to reach potential customers in other venues, such as local grocery stores, food shops, and even farmers markets. They also have the possibility to be available for purchase on location at Chat. The packets contain a pre-measured amount of spices needed for a featured recipe. The concept is to attract potential customers with a delightful new recipe to interest them in the company, as well as foreign cultures and languages in general.
