Bio Pace

Bio Pace is a running path for urban parks which illuminates a pathway at night with an activation step every 15 metres to harvest energy.

To power the lights piezoelectric technology has been used to store energy from kenetic steps. This lights a path creating an interactive environment thorugh short bursts of light between the gaps in tiles.

During the day the piezoelectric disks store energy ready to be released during dusk or dark hours.

The idea originated from aiming to increase safety for runners who like to run outside in urban areas, especially woman who may feel or be more vulnerable and targeted. The aim is to bring people to their local parks doing social activities like running whilst bringing safety in numbers.
