Lunar Rover Designathon

In under 24 hours, the design team was to design a lunar rover to withstand the harsh environments of the lunar surface. This design includes the suspension system, steering system and the drive train. A four motor drive train was utilized to reduce contact with lunar dust, and to be able to handle the terrain with all wheel drive. Lunar protection strategies included using aluminum ducts, and specific space grade seals, materials and bearings. Torque calculations used to size motor and harmonic drive system.
