Discovery - I analyzed the skate market, interviewed a skater and her parents, analyzed wear patterns on a used skate, interviewed a physical therapist, reviewed the current skate products, and researched materials.
Functional Development, Proof of Concept, Aesthetic Refinement - I explored a range of possibilities, intrigued by a cantilevered blade mount for shock absorption. I tried out the cantilever to see if it held up to torsion forces. It did! I then developed the material and aesthetics of a cantilevered skate.
