Oddly Acquainted - The aim of the ODDLY acquainted project is to utilize the intricacies of voyeurism to create an enlightening, positive human experience. A voyeur is one who obsessively observes sordid or sensational subjects usually from a secret vantage point. The vantage point in this case belongs to the realm of the elevator. The elevator is a short-lived, liminal public/private moving compartment which is laden with cross-cultural psychological issues.
The ODDLY acquainted project links two elevators visually via a live feed which expands the continuous shifts from private to public. This experience will endeavor to make connections among people that are demographically apart, which will also challenge our cultural perceptions in the midst of a strange, momentary encounter.
Accordience - The vacant urban lot presents two issues. First, it is a gap in an otherwise solid streetscape. Secondly, the empty lot represents a culture of neglect which detracts from the aesthetic of the cityscape creating an unsafe atmosphere.
Accordience involves two images pasted on an expandable, accordion style fence. The contrasting images align according to the perspective of the passerby, and therefore create a dialogue with each other as well as the pedestrian.
New images are provided seasonally, which contributes to the maintenance of the fence helping to lessen the culture of neglect.
