I can't say enough nice things about working with Will. He's an amazing athlete and a genuinely kind person.
I worked directly with Will to design a glove that would suit his unique needs. A side zip enables Will to easily pull the tight-fitting gloves on with minimal dexterity, and easily adjustable velcro straps can be tightened around the wrist so that the gloves will not slip during aggressive game play.
Tech flats of the glove: back, front, and side views.
The textured rubber decal can be stuck to any rugby chair hubcap, and easily replaced as it wears down during game play. The texture on the wheel grips the textured rubber on the glove so that the player can exert less energy. It is a clean and simple improvement for the pine tar many players currently use.

Adaptive Design: Wheelchair Rugby Gloves

The Vertex glove system is designed to revolutionize the interface between wheel and hand on the Wheelchair Rugby Court. Like a track shoe is designed to meet with the pavement to provide the best traction, the texture on the palm and fingertips of the glove are designed to interface with a texture on the hubcap of the chair's wheel for optimal grip.

Will Groulx is a multiple gold medalist at the Wold Wheelchair Rugby Championships, and a member and medalist on the U.S. Paralympics Wheelchair Rugby team. I had the opportunity to work with him on this project, creating specialized equipment for a sport where most players modify or build their own equipment.

The project shown here is a prototype only, and unfortunately not available for purchase. Many thanks to all those who have expressed interest. I hope to develop the project into a usable product, time and resources permitting, but I can't say when that will be.
