Rising Above, 2011
A Sculptural Installation dedicated to those affected by the 2011 Japanese Tsunami.
This piece is comprised of forty hand-folded origami Lotus blossoms suspended into the form of a rising wave. Lotus flowers often represent the struggles that everyone endures in this life. The seed of the lotus starts out in mud and muck at the bottom of the pond. Drawn to light, the seed slowly rises to the top of the water towards the sunlight. Only when it reaches the light does the flower bloom.
Rising Above represents washing away the pain of tragedy and rising towards the light of a new hope.
