Buchona // Degree show exhibition
Born and raised in the Mexican city of Culiacan, a town famous for being the birthplace of one of the most powerful drug cartels in the world, I am no stranger to the violence that the drug trade generates. Throughout my master’s degree, I decided to look into the different aspects of living in such a place: traditions, data, surviving the everyday life. In the end I decided to focus on personal stories. Stories of women who were somehow linked to the men working for the Cartels. These Buchonas (as we call them) became the subject of my interest. What drove them to choose that lifestyle, what it takes to be one of them and ultimately how it feels to have it all and lose it in a second.
This project is about the glamour and the power of the lifestyle and the darker secret that it hides inside.
