Buchona // Origins

These are a set of illustrations I made exploring the different meanings of the word Buchona, which has become a slang term for people working for the Cartels.
In it's origins it referred to a pigeon with a bulging neck, where it stored its food. It was later applied to people with an iron deficiency condition, which cause them to have a prominent neck. These people usually lived on the mountains and where amongst the first to start growing marihuana.
With time the term Buchona/Buchon became associated with drug dealers and cartel members and these days it's used to make reference to their opulent life style.
