Fan (c) Fan

First piece of the collection "Rethinking the Familiar ".An exploration in which I take mundane, often forgotten and ignored household appliances. I distort the proportions and manipulate the materials to generate an added value and create a different object that challenges people’s expectation. The first object of these series is The Fan. Maintaining simplicity is a fundamental part of the design. All parts are re-thought and stripped down to their bare minimum. The Propeller blades were designed to efficiently move the air in a silent way. These are crafted through the layering and bending of ash veneer. The cage was reduced to a 28 inch diameter steel ring that holds the propeller which appears to be floating on top of the base. Together with the wooden tripod the fan is a centerpiece that reaches a total height of 8 ft.
