Stitching the East End Islands

Term 2, Housing & Urbanism MA
London, Winter 2014 (group project)

This was a term long design project that focused East London’s locality, especially the areas found around Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park. The area is one of the most deprived zones. With the establishment of the Olympic park and its existing informal live-work environments, there has been a rapid process of commercialization and gentrification.
Our aim: to bend this process so that local businesses and working class families may continue living in the area. We thus conducted a detailed study of the area’s productivity in relation to London City and outer knowledge systems like Oxbridge.
In order to create binding neighborhoods with strong businesses capable of competing with international trends, it is necessary to establish better circulation schemes in fragmented fabrics. While enhancing the present condition by introducing formal and adaptable live-work spaces.
