  • Nice sketches, love your work.

  • Fantastic CAD Model.

  • As I say in the description the CAD modeling was not my work. All I did was frustrate the hell out of Nigel with lots of "can we just...." requests

  • love this !!!!

  • Cheers chaps

  • this is.........awesomeee!!! congrats!!

  • woooo! great work!

  • Thanks very much

  • To be honest Arnau I prefered it without the vent but it is the clients choice. Thanks for your help on the clay I bet you never thought you'd see it in production??

  • ....jeje I agree with you !! By the way I always had hope to see it on production !!

  • Very hot! Awesome page Mark!

  • Thank Dwayne, Obviously you can tell from the slightly different pen colours it is not one sheet. I'm not that consistent for each nice sketch there is a bad one (or 2)!! They were compiled in PS for the press release.

  • very nice work

  • sweeet!

  • Cool documentation of this project Mark...great work and this design has a nice retro touch to it (the side fairing reminds me of the Hailwood Ducati 900SS)

  • This one looks cool with a nice identity given by the vertical LED's...a shame they chose the "M1" solution in the end

  • I really wanted to do somthing with a simple single centeral light. Like the Moriwaki Motul teams suzuka 8 hour fireblabe: http://blog-imgs-23.fc2.com/8/t/a/8tai/file_20060707T030604953.jpg But sadly it was not to be.

  • Thanks Hugo, Your the first person to pic up on that. The silhouette of a classic racer over a contemporary sports bike.

  • Yes, that's always a problem when working for a customer;) Not always is the "best" design chosen:)

  • Sweet model Mark... now that's a fun job :)

  • Wow! I like it...

  • woow!

  • hot sauce!

  • way to go Mark!..Congrats!

  • Thanks Roshan, I really appreciate the comment. I think I have a touch of postnatal depression. Sadly I feel the quality of the show prototype model really let the design down. Unfortunately we had no involvement in making the show model. This was all done by Rieju and their component suppliers. The silver painted screen was dreadful, as was quality of the paint work and the grubby pink suede seat cover.

  • Without our consent Rieju also elected to add the terrible LED parking light and change the design of the grille at the very last moment. However, even with these misgivings I think the bike retained the proportion and stance that we created in the clay and subsequent CAD models and I am sure it will be a great improvement over the model it is replacing. A good deal of the work was done in an incredibly short time frame. I feel a bit indifferent about the whole thing at the moment.

  • Hello Robert, Thanks for the kind words.

  • Congats Mark, i remember you mentioning the classic racer body over modern bike proportions concept on one of the days you kindly allowed me to come over and get involved in one of your other projects. It's exiting to see those ideas have come to life! Don't let the last minute changes get you down. It's still a good looking bike!

  • i thinks you know well how to take a picture well for your presentation ~ great angle!~. especially, this shape is so attractive seemed like jet plane ~ expressed well for desire of speed!~ more red or black colored seat may be more intriquing to sit

  • Thanks Ron

  • I love the frame and swing arm. Very cool!

  • Hello Chaps, Thanks for the comments. Tom the frame made it pretty much intact, and is something I am really happy with. Sadly the swinging arm went through some fairly heavy changes when the spec changed. Have a look at some of the finished pics

  • Nice clay work Mark, I love doing clay work.

  • Yes mate, bit of a sore point that. I did not load the clay. It had already been done when I got there in order to save money. The clay around the hugger area was applied directly on to the tyre so when there was some movement in the wheel the clay cracked. It actually hasn’t prolapsed the swinging arm clay hasn’t dropped the hugger has been pulled back and apart.

  • We also only made one side to ‘save’ on cost something which we really don't recommend. Firstly motorcycles are rarely symmetrical and secondly you don’t get a proper sense of width and proportion. Of course inevitably because the bike wasn’t symmetrical a lot of work had to be re-done in CAD meaning in the end any time saved on not completing the clay was wasted in re-doing work in CAD.

  • I actually Photoshopped the crack out for the press release, but I couldn’t lie to good chaps and chapesses here on coroflot.

  • Thanks Mike.

  • Awesome sketch board!!

  • nice sketch.. great work

  • the first lines, thats cool.. and great work

  • nice work man !!!

  • Thanks Fernando, Yes probably the most important sketch of all. It wasn’t the first sketch but it was the first sketch that captured the modern meets classic dynamic that I wanted in the product. You can just see the early engineering package under the sketch. It’s on package (although I compressed the suspension a little you can see the wheel centres have moved).

  • Its a shame Eureka sketches are not so valued as sleek stuff

  • Thanks Chris that's very kind of you to say so.

  • I couldn't agree more Reg!

  • Rob & Nick, Thanks for the comments, Hours wise on this project I am not 100% sure without looking back at the job card. Typically we would build the buck and clay up, but this was already done when I went to Spain to make the model. I worked on it for approx 3 weeks but, long days 9am till 10pm and weekends so around say 270 hours. Typically we would estimate approx 6 weeks to make a clay for a fully faired motorcycle.

  • Mark what a beauty of a swing arm! Casted or welded? I like the flowing line combined with the edgy ones.

  • Thanks Maarten, Jolly good of you to say so. It was CNC'd from billet in two halves and welded together. In production it would be cast in 2 halves and welded.

  • Great work Mark, nicely milled! Would have been two huge billets.. when do you expect the final motorcycle to be finished?

  • Hello Maarten I'm not sure when the production bike will be released. Our job was finished before EICMA and we've not been asked to do anymore.

  • Love seeing these thinking sketches.

  • Hello Greg, thanks for you kind comments. I only wish we'd had the patronage to try a slim single headlight like this, instead of being pushed to "replicate" an R6 style set up.

  • Mark, I never checked the whole set of the Rieju project, but the swing arm sketches are great! I like the detailing and the explanation around it, and the final swingarm looks terrific; the CNC one in the prototype.

  • Thanks chaps, much appreciated.

  • Thanks Adityaraj. The idea of these swinging arms was to combine extrusions and castings making a smaller casting tooling and reducing cost.

  • thanks chaps pleased you like it

  • Hmmm they changed a lot after we finished, which watered down a lot of the concept. I hate the fuss on the front end, the fake intake, the fact the frame 'dog legs' are now cheap covers and an undefined blobby mess at the bottom. Oh and they cut the little 'winglet' off of the back, shortened the belly pan. Other than that yea its ok and the press certainly seem to like it. :0)

  • I really appreciate the compliment Robert, but in all honesty I feel the final product has lost of a lot of the design intent. Its really frustrating when stuff gets changed after you has signed off on a project.

  • Hi Mark, Looks good the white one! I agree with you that they changed so many "details" that the bike transformed in the end.. But you and Ian can be proud, it is yet another Xenophya bike rolling around! Great job guys, One questions; I see this white one with another swingarm than the black one in this photoserie. Which swingarm will be on the production bike? Cheers, Maarten

  • hhh

  • Hello Maarten, I certainly prefer the white graphic. I am indeed still proud of it and I love the idea that 17 years will fall in love with two wheels with one. I had a RD125lc as 17 year old and nothing has come close to that first feeling I got when I opened the throttle on that bike for the first time. The black bike is a 50cc model the white one a 125cc model, there were also plans for a 250cc engine as well. Rieju wanted to differentiate the 50cc from the 125cc with the swinging arm.
