Jazz Mirror, for BDI, 2010 - The Jazz Mirror started as an attempt to create a logo with 1 square and 4 overlapping circles. After staring at it for several minutes, I realized that if I tweaked the circles, they could line up with each other on opposite sides and create a repeating pattern. Then I changed the circles into organic curves to make it more interesting! It turned out to be a pretty cool wall mirror. When grouped, the mirrors play off each other like members in a jazz quartet!
Drop Table, for BDI, 2005 - The Drop table is available in either an espresso or a white finish. The coffee table, console and end table feature a framed glass teardrop top that is echoed in a lower shape perfect for showing off your coffee table books. Constructed of veneered MDF and nickel plated steel.
Origin Mirror, for BDI, 2004 - The Origin mirror is designed for use anywhere. The shelf and pegs are a great place to unload your keys, sunglasses, cell phones, wallets, purses, spare change, and...you get the idea. Constructed of ash veneer over low-VOC MDF with anodized aluminum shelves and pegs.
Greenbelt Chair, for Peter Danko, 1995 - This was my first design opportunity. After 15 years the chair is still in production. In 1995, Peter Danko was commissioned for the design of a dining chair for a mall food court. Peter had the idea of using recycled seat belt straps for the seat & back. Pressed for time, he handed the project to me with a photo of the Alto chair 611 for reference and I took it from there. Peter has broadened the design to include a bar stool, an arm chair and a stacking chair.
Stilt Shelf, for BDI, 2003 - Stilt is a patented modular, leaning shelving system designed in single or triple column units. Expansion columns can be attached as well. The design incorporates extruded aluminum or tubular steel legs with wooden boxes.
TRE Chair & nesting ottoman, Directions East, 2007 - The TRE lounge chair meets the criteria for sustainability. It is made from Vietnamese bamboo, non-toxic glue, and water-based sealer. Vietnamese bamboo fully matures in 3-5 years. It is then molded using techniques similar to those used in the manufacture of bent-veneer furniture. The chair is remarkably comfortable. The ottoman fits conveniently under the seat when not in use. The back and seat separate for a small packing footprint. By the way, “tre” means “bamboo” in Vietnamese.
DIS chair, for Danish Institute for Study Abroad, summer 2009 - Designed and built during summer courses at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts, Copenhagen, Denmark. We were given the constraint of using no more than 6 meters of tubular steel. My inspiration was the iconic Adirondack Chair. The design incorporates a steel frame with a woven paper cord seat and a bent plywood backrest. The ottoman nests under the seat during parties. I built this with minor help on a few welds.
Secretariat Chair - This is an office chair that rocks. For those who want to go somewhere, fast!
