Art Classes with Young Humans

Our children should know how to make their own natural art supplies, and that is precisely what I am teaching them. They know how to collect, assess and grind earth pigments, and how to mix those into an assortment of media, such as egg tempera, egg wash, egg glaze, walnut and poppy oil paint, and milk paint, among others. I also arrange for children to draw and paint from nature, taking them to the community gardens, doing a little gardening with them, then we pull out the paints and journals. All of this usually ends with happy, exhausted kiddos, who are unfettered and feel the freedom that artistic endeavours provide them. It is a beautiful time.
