Sculptural Forms - Cedar, Glass, Wood

Textural elements and form are examined within the context of pliability and extension of materials. Ancient methods of bark stripping were used to carefully harvest natural materials from trees which were felled after a storm. Only trees which had already come down were used. Glass was collected from friends, across the nation, who had experienced shattered automobile windows for one reason or another, and each sample was mailed to the artist for use in this sculpture. Other small branches were harvested and some were stripped for bark, after they were cleared from the lawns and fields of nearby neighbors. Multiple relationships were explored among shape, texture, material and social connectivity, in this series of work. - Artist: Mary Braun (Bunker)
