Little Deviants
2011 - Little Deviants
Developer: Bigbig Studios / SCEE
Format: PlayStation Vita
Little Deviants was a project born out a a tech demo for an early hardware prototype of the PlayStation Vita. The original premise was simple - to roll deviants (little characters that could transform into balls) around the world using the PSVita's rear touch functionality to deform the landscape around them. Shuhei Yoshida loved the concept and the title eventually evolved into a mini-game collection using the front touchscreen, rear touch-pad, SIXAXIS motion controls, rear camera, and AR capabilities of the device. I was chiefly responsible for concepting and creating a couple of the environments, providing FX for the mini-games and providing the rocket ship parts players earned for completing games (these eventually assembled into the complete craft). I also provided the skies for all the environments. These were built from strips that offered almost infinite variety and (a nice bit of parallax).
