Port Morris Distillery Brand Identity and Packaging

Overview: Port Morris Distillery is a micro-distillery located in the Port Morris area of the Bronx. Their product is a modern take on "pitorro," a Puerto Rican moonshine rum made by fermenting fruits, sugar cane, and other natural ingredients. PMD was looking for a brand identity that felt authentic and established, but with a contemporary twist, something that would pay homage to the family's moonshining legacy.

Deliverables: Brand identity, packaging, promotional materials, product photography

Design Challenge: Creating a brand that looked like it's "always been" required researching brand evolution, finding patterns and themes in the marks they used, and recognizing what worked and what didn't. The logo, with its bold and straight-forward PMDNY mark, feels right at home on a barrel or bottle. Coconut paper for the labeling pays tribute to the tropics of Puerto Rico, and a touch of playful typography hints to a brand that doesn't take itself too seriously.
